On September 6, 2024, at OSCA Singapore, we hosted a special Design Workshop in collaboration with Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home, where we engaged a group of bright and enthusiastic youth, aged 13 to 21, in an inspiring day of creativity, design, and teamwork. This initiative was part of our ongoing commitment to giving back to the community and empowering young minds with valuable life skills.
The workshop themed around the “Build Your Own Bridge” game, brought together 20 participants who were split into four groups of five. Our in-house designers led the youth, providing expert guidance and encouragement throughout the day. This fun and educational activity allowed participants to dive into the basics of engineering and design processes in a hands-on, engaging way.
The “Build Your Own Bridge” game was designed to be more than just a creative challenge; it was an opportunity for the youth to experience the power of collaboration, problem-solving, and innovative thinking. Each group worked together to design and construct a bridge, exploring different materials and strategies. While some bridges stood tall, others may have faltered—but the key takeaway was not in whether the bridge held up, but in the lessons learned along the way.
As we reminded the participants, every bridge, whether successful or not, teaches something valuable. The importance lies in the creativity, teamwork, and determination each group demonstrated. By experimenting, sharing ideas, and navigating challenges, the youth embraced the design process and explored how things are built in the real world.
At OSCA, we believe that fostering creativity and a growth mindset is essential to building a brighter future. Through this workshop, the youth celebrated their efforts, their learning, and their newfound skills.
